Jeff Goodman gives a bold take on Kansas' future with Tyran Stokes

Even with all the fanfare that came with Tyran Stokes committing to the Kansas Jayhawks, it isn't all sunshine and rainbows, quite yet.

The commitment has come and Tyran Stokes is officially a Kansas Jayhawk.

Now, the real work begins.

Yes, it was a massive recruiting win for Kansas head coach Bill Self, but there is still an entire season on the (distant) horizon, and the in-game results are what truly matter at the end of the day.

And, even with Stokes on the roster, national college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman, once again, doesn't think the team will be good enough to reach the Final Four.

"He absolutely could be the best player in the country. It wouldn't surprise me one bit," Goodman said. "And I still don't know if that's gonna be enough to lead this team to a Final Four, but [Self] had to have him."

Jeff Goodman questions if Tryan Stokes is enough for a Kansas Final Four

Now, he by no means was saying Stokes is going to be bad, or that Self shouldn't have gone after the No. 1 overall recruit. In fact, Goodman was applauding the Jayhawks' recruiting efforts and success.

"Of all the great recruiting jobs Bill Self has done, this might be No. 1," Goodman continued. "Taking a Nike kid away from Oregon and Kentucky, and getting him to an Adidas school? That's insane!"

Of course, Stokes signed a multi-year NIL deal with Nike just six months ago, and he will now be suiting up in an Adidas uniform, the other top sports gear brand sponsoring Kansas instead of Nike.

While nobody truly knows how Stokes' game will translate to college basketball, or if it will be enough to propel the Jayhawks back to the Final Four (or deeper), Goodman's take on the Kansas men's basketball team isn't exactly promising.

With Stokes' commitment, Self's class of 2026 shot up to No. 2 in the nation, besting the likes of the Duke Blue Devils and the defending National Champion Michigan Wolverines, but still trailing the dominant recruiting performance by the Arkansas Razorbacks and head coach John Calipari.

Stokes joined fellow five-star prospect Taylen Kinney, as well as four-star center Davion Adkins, four-star small forward Trent Perry, and four-star shooting guard Luke Barnett in the Jayhawks' incoming class.
