Kansas fans were finally rewarded for their long wait during Tyran Stokes' recruitment as the No. 1 overall recruit committed to the Jayhawks Tuesday night. Stokes went on NBA Tipoff Tuesday night and made his commitment live to Bill Self and Kansas, something fans are rejoicing about.

It has been a long journey to get Stokes in a Kansas uniform, but apparently not quite as long as some have thought. Weeks ago, Stokes made a visit to Kentucky, leading Kansas fans to believe he was leaning towards the Wildcats; they could not have been more wrong.

As reported by On3's Kentucky reporter, Jack Pilgrim, before Stokes even made the trip to Lexington, he had already signed his non-revenue share NIL paperwork with Kansas.

That is right, Stokes was already a Jayhawk when he took the trip to Kentucky, and he continued to stretch out his announcement until Tuesday night. This may not make Kansas fans too happy as Stokes put everything through a lot during his recruiting process, but at this point, he is going to Kansas and is going to change a lot for the Jayhawks.

Tyran Stokes better pan out at Kansas after his rollercoaster recruitment

Kansas fans just went through a lot in the 2025-2026 season with the Darryn Peterson drama, and they aren't ready for another season of that. Stokes has now proven he has a flair for the dramatic, and here's hoping he doesn't bring that to the court for the Jayhawks.

Stokes can be as dramatic as he wants, making plays for the Jayhawks, but all the off-court drama needs to be left at the door once he steps foot onto campus in Lawrence. Self is not going to want to deal with Peterson-like drama again, and Stokes needs to be ready for that.

Self has taken a big gamble on landing Stokes, so he needs to pan out for the Jayhawks, especially if the legendary coach is considering stepping down soon. Self made the decision to return for another season, but soon that answer could change in the coming years, so Kansas needs to find a way to send him out on top, and here's hoping Stokes can help make that happen.
