Kansas football WRs have robbed Jalon Daniels of hundreds of passing yards
The Kansas football rushing offense has been as good as ever in the 2024 season. Star tailback Devin Neal is on pace to surpass the century mark in yardage for the third consecutive year, while the team has amassed over 1,000 more yards on the ground with other players. However, the passing attack has been below average.
Although he has improved as of late, quarterback Jalon Daniels has had a rough campaign through 10 games. His 56.6% completion percentage is the second-worst in the conference, and he tossed eight interceptions in five games to start the year.
That being said, his fortunes might have been improved if not for wide receiver drops. According to Sports Info Solutions, KU wideouts have squandered a total of 255 of Daniels' passing yards, the fourth-most among FBS schools and the second-most in the conference. Butterfingers must be the most popular candy in the locker room.
Kansas football WRs have struggled with drops in 2024
Daniels has thrown for 1,985 yards this season, but he could have much more. It's worth noting that the statistic only accounts for air yards. The tool cannot assume the receiver would add on any yards after the catch. That number (255) would be significantly higher if that was not the case.
Obviously, the first one that comes into mind was Quentin Skinner's inexplicable drop on what would have been a sure-fire touchdown against Kansas State. He could have set the tone early with a score on a picture-perfect ball thrown by Daniels, but the Wildcats turned the tide of the game soon after.
At least one Jayhawk is not to blame — reliable target Luke Grimm has yet to drop a pass all year. He had the most targets in college football without a drop heading into the Sunflower Showdown. Daniels knows good things will happen when the ball is thrown his way.
Kansas certainly can't afford any drops or receiver miscues against Colorado this Saturday. The Jayhawks will line up opposite two-way superstar Travis Hunter, who will surely give Daniels a difficult time.
