Kansas football WR leads nation in remarkable drop-free streak
Kansas football has struggled offensively in 2024, dropping from a top 20 offense last year to outside the top 50. There are many reasons for this, including the departure of OC Andy Kotelnicki and constant miscues from quarterback Jalon Daniels. Regardless, it has often been ugly for the Jayhawks and the air attack.
If there is one standout in KU's passing game, it is wide receiver Luke Grimm. Aside from Devin Neal, Grimm is the only player who has given KU consistent offensive production. He's well on his way to setting a career-high in receiving yards before he exhausts his eligibility, largely due to his reliable hands. According to Pro Football Focus, his 55 targets are the most in college football without a dropped pass.
Luke Grimm has yet to drop a pass in 2024
This statistic shouldn't come as a surprise to the Jayhawk faithful. No one can question Grimm's sure-handedness on the field. Ever since he landed in Lawrence five years ago, he has been one of the hardest workers in the program. It's difficult to forget his memorable 160-yard, three-touchdown performance in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
While the Jayhawks have only won two games in a disappointing campaign, Grimm has done a fantastic job serving as a safety blanket for Daniels. The star slot receiver has caught 38 passes for 429 receiving yards and five touchdowns, adding another 114 yards and a score on the ground. He must tally 195 more yards in four games to surpass his career-high.
When the ball is heading Grimm's way, you know there is a high probability of him reeling it in. Kansas football fans wish they could say the same about other wideouts like Quentin Skinner, who dropped an unguarded deep ball from Daniels in the end zone during the Sunflower Showdown. Perhaps the outcome of the contest would have been different if it was thrown toward Grimm instead.
At the end of the day, this year will be considered a lost season for Kansas football. However, program-building players like Grimm are why the Jayhawks returned to prominence, and he will be appreciated at KU for decades to come.
