Kansas football star Cobee Bryant eager for showdown with Heisman contender

Cobee circled this game on his calendar a long time ago.

If you're a Kansas football fan who checked out once the Jayhawks dropped to 2-6 on the season, it's time to check back in. Lance Leipold and his squad have a chance to do the unthinkable and pull off their third consecutive ranked upset over a Big 12 title contender.

But KU isn't only playing spoiler anymore, either. Assuming they somehow finish the year on a four-game winning streak, Kansas would become eligible to play in a bowl at an even .500. All they need to do is defeat Colorado on Saturday and Baylor next week. Seems easy enough, right?

Well, not quite. The Buffs have been playing better football than any school in the conference recently. It certainly won't be easy for the Jayhawks, and the players are conscious of that. Some KU standouts like Cobee Bryant have additional motivation to compete against a team of CU's caliber. The star defensive back is ecstatic to line up opposite Heisman Trophy favorite Travis Hunter.

Cobee Bryant can't wait to line up against Colorado's Travis Hunter

"Yes, yes, I'm not gonna lie, [I've been extra motivated]. I've been waiting. I already marked this on my notes, I already know this is the game. I've been wanting this game all season. This is gonna be the game."
Cobee Bryant

Bryant has never been someone to shy away from a challenge. He is well-known as one of the biggest trash talkers in Lawrence, second to maybe Hunter Dickinson. The former All-Big 12 First Team selection has been waiting on this matchup for a long time.

Hunter is a player with a skill set that the game has not seen in a long time. The two-way superstar excels on both ends of the ball, making his case as a top-five wide receiver and cornerback in college football. He has recorded 74 receptions for 911 yards and nine touchdowns offensively β€” that is what Bryant will be tasked with guarding.

At the end of the day, Bryant has the right mindset heading into the contest. In order to become the best, you have to face the best. He probably won't be able to shut down Hunter all day long, but it should be reassuring to the Jayhawk fanbase that the team's top defensive back is well aware of what is at stake this week.
