Mackenzie Mgbako, the top priority for next year’s Kansas basketball roster, announced his commitment date.
Kansas Jayhawks fans will receive some clarity of how their team will look in 2023-24 when Mackenzie Mgbako commits on Friday. He is choosing between Kansas and Indiana University.
The decision was expected sometime this week after he canceled his visit to Louisville yesterday.
Although a time has not been set up yet, the announcement should be expected in the late afternoon or evening.
Kansas has zeroed in on Mgbako in the past week after they acquired Hunter Dickinson. A five-star prospect and the No. 10-ranked player in the Class of 2023, he would be the final piece to KU’s “dream team.”
Mgbako was supposed to attend Duke next semester, but he de-committed from the university after star big man Kyle Filipowski announced he would return for a sophomore season. Kansas and Indiana can offer him far more playing time.

Although he would be a freshman next season, Bill Self would not be reluctant to play him as he has to other first-year players in the past. Mgbako can shoot the lights out and provides spacing for Hunter Dickinson, considering Self can play a four-out, one-in offense.
KU’s C/O 2023 recruiting class — which includes Elmarko Jackson, Marcus Adams Jr., Chris Johnson, and Jamari McDowell — would immediately become one of the best in the country with the addition of Mgbako. Their class is already ranked No. 6 in the nation, and it could slide into the top three.
Although adding Dickinson made the Jayhawks one of the top teams in the nation, Mgbako would be the cherry on top for Bill Self’s squad. They would have an argument to be the preseason No. 1 team in the country if Mgbako commits to Kansas on Friday.
