The Hunter Dickinson sweepstakes are over. He is now playing for Kansas basketball.

It’s official: the best player in the NCAA transfer portal is a Kansas Jayhawk. Bill Self gets his main target, and the 2023-24 roster now shapes up to be one of the best in KU history. Self loves coaching his team with a dominant big man, and Dickinson is precisely that.

Dickinson announced his commitment to Kansas on his social media pages. The video shows his interest in playing at one of the best atmospheres in all and college basketball, along with Dickinson telling head coach Bill Self that he will be coming to play for him next year. Self’s eyes lit up, and his hands went in the air. It feels like Dickinson and Self have been a match made for heaven.

The ex-Michigan player is a 7-foot-1 center who can do it all. He is an adequate paint defender but can score from anywhere on the floor. His 42.1 percent three-point percentage will be a boon to the Jayhawks, albeit on 0.7 makes per game. Most importantly, he will be Kansas’ most valuable player on the roster this upcoming season.

Dickinson scored 18.5 points per game with Michigan last year, which was 55th in D-I basketball. He also had 9.0 rebounds. On top of that, Dickinson shot 56.0 percent on field goal attempts while also shooting. He is an amazing player who will fit right into the Bill Self system.

If you’re a Jayhawk fan and have never seen Dickinson play during his three years at Michigan, expect a lot of picks and lobs between him and Dajuan Harris Jr., a fast-paced Jayhawk offense, and a secure defensive team with Dickinson controlling in the paint.

Dickinson is one of Bill Self’s biggest recruitment wins he has ever received, and it will be interesting to see how great Dickinson lives up to during his time in Kansas.

Jayhawk fans no longer have to fret over next year. It is shaping up to be one of the best seasons KU has ever had under Bill Self.
