The anticipation around Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels' revenge season continues to grow, despite few people having high hopes for the Jayhawks' season.

Most recently, the veteran QB received a pretty big honor, appearing on the 2025 Walter Camp Player of the Year preseason watch list, which includes 46 total players. Daniels is one of just 37 offensive stars in the country to make the list and is the only Jayhawk to do so this year.

Daniels is one of 22 quarterbacks on the preseason watchlist, including fellow Big 12 QBs Kaidon Salter at Colorado and Sam Leavitt at Arizona State.

Jayhawk fans will be even happier to learn that Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson was nowhere to be found on the list for possible players of the year.

Jalon Daniels is ready for fifth year at Kansas

After last season, which ended with Kansas falling to an abysmal 5-7 overall record, Daniels announced that he would return for a fifth season with the Jayhawks.

In 2024, Daniels threw just 171 completions (a disappointing 57 percent completion rate) for 2,454 yards and 14 touchdowns, alongside 12 interceptions. The usual dual-threat quarterback was contained by opponents, only tacking on an additional 447 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

This season, expectations are even higher for the now super-senior quarterback, who is projected to be a leader for the Jayhawks and one of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12 conference.

Earlier this offseason, Daniels was also named to the Shrine Bowl 1000 Preseason watch list, which features 1,000 of the best college football players who could possibly be invited to participate in the annual Shrine Bowl after their final collegiate season.

Daniels and the Jayhawks are scheduled to kick off their 2025 campaign with an at-home matchup against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The game is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug., the first Saturday of college football.
