The 2025 football season is flying into focus, and the Kansas Jayhawks are looking to turn things around after a highly disappointing season last year.

Last season, the Jayhawks finished the year with an abysmal 5-7 overall record, falling short of a bowl game qualification and earning a 10th-place finish in the Big 12, despite being projected to finish fourth in the conference.

Now, with another season just around the corner, Kansas desperately needs to improve upon its performance from last year. However, Grok AI, the artificial intelligence assistant connected to X (formerly Twitter), didn't provide a lot of hope for Jayhawk fans.

When one college football account asked Grok to predict the final standings of the Big 12, the AI interface landed Kansas in a disappointing ninth-place finish, with yet another abysmal record in conference play.

Sure, the 7-5 record to finish the regular season would be an improvement over last season's outcome. However, in a conference that is far from the powerhouse it used to be, a 5-4 record against Big 12 opponents would be embarrassing at best.

Last year, the Jayhawks lost to West Virginia, TCU, Arizona State, Kansas State, and Baylor, only capturing victories over Houston, Iowa State, BYU, and Colorado. Not to mention, when all was said and done, the Arizona State Sun Devils were really the only dominant team in the conference with an appearance in the 12-team College Football Playoffs.

With preseason rankings still slowly rolling in, the Jayhawks are not currently scheduled to play any ranked opponents. Yet, with Grok's projection, the Jayhawks would barely pull off an even record by the end of the regular season.

Head coach Lance Leipold is going to have to prove his worth (his current salary resting above $7 million per season) as he leads the Jayhawks through their fifth season together.

So far, Leipold has led Kansas to a dreadful 22-28 overall record, with just one winning season (9-4 in 2023). He has taken the Jayhawks to two bowl games (2022 Liberty Bowl, 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl) and secured just one postseason victory, a 49-36 win over UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl game.
