Barks were echoing through Allen Fieldhouse, and it wasn't from visiting fans of the Gonzaga Bulldogs, UConn Huskies, or another dog-based team. It was for the Kansas Jayhawks themselves.
Senior guard Melvin Council Jr. has gone viral for a video that included him shouting, "If you're not a dog, you're dog food." Then, he barked in the ears of his teammates, and the clip has unsurprisingly led to Kansas fans joining in on the "ruff" mentality.

When ESPN's College GameDay came to Lawrence ahead of the No. 14 Jayhawks' game against the No. 13 BYU Cougars, Kansas head coach Bill Self joined the set, and even he had that dog in him on Saturday morning.
College GameDay features incredible Melvin Council graphic
The on-court screen behind Self and the GameDay crew featured an image of two dogs, with Council and Self's heads edited onto the dogs' bodies.

Of course, Self and the rest of the College GameDay cast cracked up at the image, but the show also played a feature on Council, and he made sure to back up his dog or dog food mentality.
He explained that college basketball is a dog-eat-dog world, and if you're not the top dog in the game, then you're left behind to be eaten up by those around you, especially when you're playing in as competitive a league as the Big 12.
Throughout the season, Council has averaged 13.7 points, 5.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game as he has helped lead the Jayhawks to their 15-5 overall record.
With the Cougars coming to town, Council, Self, and the rest of the elite Kansas squad have yet another opportunity to prove that they are one of the top dogs in the game.
No. 14 Kansas and No. 13 BYU were scheduled to tip off at 3:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 31, and the game was set to be broadcast on ESPN following No. 4 Duke's game against Virginia Tech.
