Monday came and went for Kansas, Kentucky, and Oregan ans who were glued to their phones waiting for a commitment from 2026 No. 1 overall recruit Tyran Stokes that never came. After rumors and reports said an announcement from Stokes could come on Monday, fans were hoping this saga would come to an end.
The end still is not here, and Stokes still has not made his commitment, but there is hope this could all end soon. For Kansas fans, 247Sports basketball recruiting analysts are giving some good news that should make head coach Bill Self happy, but he isn't in the clear yet, either.
247Sports predicts Kansas is still leading for Tyran Stokes but to remain alert
It has been a long road when it comes to the recruitment of Tyran Stokes. It felt like things would come to an end in late December of 2025, but Stokes wasn't ready to make his decision and put off his commitment. Kentucky was the leading, but Kansas and Oregon made a push that put the Wildcats in doubt for Stokes.
Now, in April of 2026, it seems the thing standing in the way of Stokes already being committed to Kansas right now is his NIL deal with Nike and Kansas being an Adidas school. 247Sports basketball recruiting analyst Isaac Trotter believes that if that deal wasn't as big a factor as it is, Stokes would have been committed to Kansas a long time ago, and Self would be building the roster around him.
Even with that, though, Trotter and Travis Branham, another 247Sports basketball recruiting analyst, believe that Kansas is still the favorite when it comes to Stokes' commitment. Trotter warned that Kansas can't forget about Oregon, either, along with Kentucky, as there are a lot of other things in play when it comes to his commitment.
If it were a clear-cut recruitment without any other forces to factor in, Trotter believes Kansas would have been the choice a long time ago, but in the world of NIL deals now, Stokes is in a tough spot.
At this point, a commitment could still come at any time, so be sure to be on the lookout for more information about Stokes.
