The story that every Kansas fan has been following for months is hopefully about to have a resolution as soon as Monday. No. 1 overall 2027 recruit Tyran Stokes was set to make his commitment in December of 2025, but ended up delaying the announcement, stating he just wasn't ready to make a decision yet.

Fast forward to April of 2026, and that decision might finally come from the highly-rated recruit. Stokes seemed to be heading to Kentucky early in his recruitment, but the Kansas Jayhawks made quite the push for his commitment and even seemed to become the favorite.

The Oregon Ducks are the other school fighting their way through this commitment, but it still feels like this race is between Kansas and Kentucky.

Now, Stokes might finally be ready to make his announcement as reported by Jeff Goodman with the Feilf of 68, but even he feels like it could be too good to be true. Goodman reported that he heard from a source close to the situation that his commitment could come today, picking between Kansas and Kentucky.

Kansas fans will be glued to their phones waiting for a Tyran Stokes update

It has been a long and winding road for Stokes' commitment and one that has given both Kansas and Kentucky whiplash. The way Stokes has jumped from one school to another so frequently has fans wondering if he will ever make a decision.

It seems the biggest roadblock in the way of Stokes picking Kansas sooner is that he has signed a multi-year NIL deal with Nike, but the Jayhawks are an Adidas school. Kentucky is a Nike school, hence Stokes keeping them high on his list along with Oregon, but reports have stated that Stokes has still leaned towards Kansas.

A decision could come today, or it could continue to be pushed off. In the end, Stokes is going to go to one of these schools, helping them in a major way with his talent on the court. However, Kentucky is making one last push, offering Stokes' high school coach an assistant coach position.
