Kansas basketball experienced a mass exodus when six players transferred away from the program this offseason. In addition to losing three key starters to graduation, Bill Self essentially had to start from scratch and build a roster that complements incoming freshman Darryn Peterson.
Of those six departures, none had found a new home until earlier today when former KU guard David "Diggy" Coit committed to a new school. After spending one year in the Big 12, Coit will finish his collegiate career in the ACC at Maryland. He was one of Buzz Williams' first transfer additions since becoming the Terps' head coach.

David Coit commits to Maryland in transfer portal
A New Jersey native, Coit will head back east for his final season at the NCAA level. Kevin Willard left Maryland to take the job at Villanova, but Williams has already added four players in the portal.
Prior to transferring to the Jayhawks, Coit spent time at Atlantic Cape Community College before moving up to the Division I level at Northern Illinois. He had a strong sophomore season but broke out as a junior, averaging 20.8 points per game while making 3.2 threes per game. His strong performances caught the likes of Kentucky, Louisville, and TCU, but ultimately committed to Kansas as a late portal addition last August.
Since the NCAA passed a ruling to grant former JUCO athletes an additional year of eligibility, Coit is eligible to play in the upcoming season. Although he teased the prospect of finishing his career out in Lawrence, he did go back on his word, which is not unheard of in today's transfer portal era.
While Coit played on one of the worst Jayhawk squads in recent history, he was among the few players who showed heart and grit throughout the season. Coach Self even named him the most outspoken leader on the entire team. KU fans should wish him well in his future endeavors.
