The Kansas basketball roster will look much different next season. Hunter Dickinson, Zeke Mayo, KJ Adams, and Dajuan Harris will all graduate, while the whereabouts of complementary pieces Rylan Griffen and AJ Storr remain uncertain. However, the Jayhawks may have received some good news over the weekend about the future of a current player.

Thanks to an NCAA waiver providing former JUCO athletes an extra year of eligibility, David Coit announced he plans to return to college basketball. The Kansas guard said he hopes to spend his last year back with KU:

Diggy Coit might spend another year at Kansas

When Coit committed to Kansas over the summer, he was the presumed replacement for Elmarko Jackson, who tore the patellar tendon in his knee during a workout. The NCAA ruling had not passed and he only had one more year of eligibility. However, Bill Self may have lucked into a second season with the undersized sharpshooter.

Coit has played in a reserve role for the Jayhawks during his first year in Lawrence, though he has started three games. The 5-foot-11 guard is averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists on 35.5%/36.5%/70.0% shooting splits across 25 contests. He is a lifetime 14 point-per-game scorer.

Of course, he can still decide that he wants to play elsewhere by entering the transfer portal. Nevertheless, he seems to have found a home in Lawrence moving forward. When asked about how it feels to play at a school like KU, he responded: "Why wouldn't you come back?"

If Coit returns to KU for his final collegiate season, he will be joining a loaded backcourt. With Darryn Peterson, Elmarko Jackson, and Jamari McDowell expected to handle most of the point guard and shooting guard minutes in 2025-26, Coit would face tough competition for playing time.
