A win always feels good, there's no denying it. However, the Kansas men's basketball team needed a win unlike anybody else. After the Jayhawks picked up their 32-point victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys, everyone in the arena breathed a sigh of relief.
After the much-needed win, Kansas' head coach simply stated the obvious when he talked about how good the victory felt.
“Oh, yeah, we needed some confidence boost and we got it from a lot of people today," Self said. "So we should feel better about ourselves, you know."
With just four regular-season games remaining, the Jayhawks desperately needed the win. With the victory over Oklahoma State, Kansas improved to just 18-9 overall after ending a two-game losing streak.
The Jayhawks are currently ranked 6th in the Big 12 standings after being ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation earlier this season. The falloff of the Kansas men's team has been one of the biggest disappointments of the 2024-25 season and Self has repeatedly gotten in his way throughout the year.
Kansas men's basketball remaining 2024-25 schedule
- at Colorado Buffaloes – Feb. 24
- vs. No. 9 Texas Tech Red Raiders – March 1
- vs. No. 6 Houston Cougars – March 3
- vs. No. 19 Arizona Wildcats – March 8
While the win for the Jayhawks was certainly a confidence booster, the road ahead won't get any easier for Kansas. With three ranked matchups on their schedule, the No. 23 Jayhawks will be clinging to their winning record in conference play.
