The season could not get worse for the Kansas men's basketball team... until it does. Over the past few months, the Jayhawks have fallen from the No. 1 team in the nation to a program that is clinging to a top-25 ranking for dear life.
With a 17-9 overall record, the season isn't one for the record books when it comes to the worst years in program history. However, Kansas currently resides as the sixth-place team in the Big 12 standings after being projected to win the conference in preseason polls.
Head coach Bill Self seemingly can't get out of his own way as his players appear to have lost all motivation to push their way to victories over the last few weeks.
Currently, the Jayhawks are on a two-game losing streak, having lost three of their last four matchups, and the road ahead won't be easy.
Kansas men's basketball might fall to a losing record in Big 12 play
Kansas has just five regular-season matchups remaining and three of them are against top-25 teams, including two teams in the top 10. Yes, the Jayhawks get to host the Oklahoma State Cowboys in what should be an easy win for them but then they have to visit the Colorado Buffaloes. For context, Kansas is 3-7 on the road so far this season.
Then, the last three games of Kansas' Big 12 schedule get even more difficult. The Jayhawks have to host the No. 9 Texas Tech Red Raiders and then visit the No. 5 Houston Cougars as they fight to earn some last-minute ranked wins.
To close out the regular season, the Jayhawks will face the Arizona Wildcats who have lost just three conference matchups this year.

To put it simply, Self and the Jayhawks have a rough road ahead of them and for the first time in a long, long time, Kansas might drop to a losing record in conference play as they head towards the Big 12 tournament – which could astronomically affect their seeding in March Madness.
