While the 2024-25 season didn't go to plan for Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks, the coaches have been working overtime on the recruiting trail to get things moving in the right direction for the future. Come next season, everyone can't wait for 5-star shooting guard Darryn Peterson to make plays for KU.
With that said, there's another name for people to keep a close eye on moving forward. That'd be 5-star prospect Tyran Stokes, ranked the No. 1 recruit in the country for the 2026 class. However, the door has been opened for Stokes to reclassify and play college ball next campaign. Oh, and he's taking an official visit to Lawrence this weekend:

Should he play for the Jayhawks next season?! (Per @TiptonEdits ) pic.twitter.com/beuD63RkYJ
5-star Kansas target Tyran Stokes could reclassify to the 2025 class
Self just landed the No. 1 player in the country in Peterson. Imagine if the top 2026 prospect commits to the Jayhawks, and then also decides he wants to gradaute high school early and play in the Big 12 in 2025-26 as well. It'd be massive for Kansas.
Stokes has plenty of people talking too with him recently revealing that he's not going to be playing AAU hoops this summer. Why would he do this? Well, potentially because he in fact is considering making the switch to be a part of the 2025 class.
If that ends up being the case, then he could choose to make his college commitment sooner rather than later. It's pretty telling that the Jayhawks are getting him on campus for an official visit, which shows how strong the mutual interest is here.
Throughout his recruitment, Stokes has picked up offers from Kansas, Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina and many others. He's got NBA written all over him, but first, he'll look to make an impact at an NCAA powerhouse first. Let's keep our fingers crossed he ends up rocking with Kansas and Self.
