Peterson's "Bucket Jones" nickname is getting an upgrade!
5-star recruit Darryn Peterson has made it very clear that he is sticking with Coach Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks, despite Flory Bidunga entering the transfer portal recently. The elite 5-star recruit will be in Lawrence regardless of what his surrounding cast looks like next season, according to his recent comments:
""I'm not going anywhere. Even if I have to play with four walk-ons every game. Even if I have to play 3 on 5 Collin Sexton style every game. In fact, I have notified Coach Self via pager that I'm updating my nickname from 'Bucket Jones' to 'One Man Army' and I expect him to call me that!""Darryn Peterson (In another dimension)
"The One Man Army" had indicated previously that he was most excited to play with Flory Bidunga next season but that will not happen now. Luckily, he and Coach Self still seem to be on the same page, despite many players from this season entering the transfer portal, such as Flory Bidunga, David Coit, Rylan Griffen, Mitch Lightfoot, Rakease Passmore, Perry Ellis, and actor Paul Rudd.
The 5-star phenom will bless Jayhawks fans with his incredible scoring ability and competitiveness as he spends his likely lone season in college before entering the NBA draft in 2026. Bill Self believes that "The One Man Army" might be the best player he has recruited at Kansas, surpassing recruits like Andrew Wiggins, Josh Jackson, Zach Clemence, and Joel Embiid.
What will the rest of the roster look like to supplement "The One Man Army"'s skills in the starting lineup? It is tough to say at this point, but at least "The One Man Army" is here to stay! One last thing Jayhawks fans....
