As the Kansas Jayhawks headed to Boulder to take on the Colorado Buffaloes, head coach Bill Self was not on the plane with the team.
Self, who has coached the Jayhawks for the last two decades, checked into LMH Health, the major hospital in Lawrence, after feeling "under the weather."
What felt like just a few months ago, Self checked into LMH after experiencing chest pains and remained in the hospital for a couple of days before being released following a procedure to catheterize his heart and insert two stents for blocked arteries.

The Kansas athletic department released the initial statement, informing the public of Self checking into LMH Health, but has yet to release an update on his current condition.
According to the original statement, Self checked into the hospital "out of an abundance of caution" and was receiving fluids.
This stint in the hospital over the summer was not Self's first time checking in for medical care after experiencing chest pains, having received a similar operation on his heart just a few years earlier.

Kansas and Colorado are scheduled to tip off at 10 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Jan. 20, but Self will unlikely remain in Lawrence as his team looks to improve to 14-5 overall and 4-2 against Big 12 opponents.
While this season hasn't been perfect for Self and the Jayhawks, the head coach's focus should undeniably be on his personal health and well-being, no matter the state of his basketball team.
Since taking over the program in 2003, Self has led the Jayhawks to 623 wins and just 162 losses (a 79.4 percent win rate), as well as securing two National Championships (2008 and 2022). Self has been a legendary head coach for Kansas, and hopefully that will continue for years to come.
