Over the weekend, three-star running back Nelsyn Wheeler took a trip to Lawrence for his official visit with the Kansas Jayhawks and head coach Lance Leipold, just days before stepping foot on one of his home-state campuses.

Wheeler is the No. 1 running back prospect in the state of Nebraska and visited the Cornhuskers just a few days after spending time with the Jayhawks. However, not many recruiting experts have Wheeler landing with his hometown program.

After visiting the Jayhawks, Wheeler shared some promising pictures of his OV, donning the Jayhawks' blackout uniforms while rocking a Kansas boombox and bomber jacket.

The visit to Kansas isn't the only OV that Wheeler has scheduled this summer. The running back will also take official visits with the Illinois Fighting Illini (June 6), Michigan State Spartans (June 13), and Cincinnati Bearcats (June 20).

As of now, Leipold has brought in the nationally-ranked No. 25 class of 2026 recruits, giving the Jayhawks the No. 2 class in the Big 12 for that recruiting cycle. This is a remarkable improvement from his class of 2025 commits, which ranks 16th in the conference and 70th nationally.

Four-star safety James Dunnigan Jr. and four-star running back Kory Amachree headline the recruiting class, but the addition of Wheeler could provide a lot of promise for the Jayhawks in the offensive backfield.

Currently, both On3 and 247Sports have Wheeler leaning toward Kansas, Michigan State, Illinois, or Cincinnati for his future team, most likely due to the fact that he only has official visits scheduled with those four programs.

Wheeler also competes in track for his high school, clocking a 10.77-second finish in the 100 meters and a 22.17 in the 200 meters as a sophomore, as well as a 7.01-second finish in the indoor 60-meter dash as a freshman.
