The Kansas Jayhawks are just days away from learning if their recruiting efforts were enough to land one of the top offensive prospects in the class of 2026, as four-star running back Kory Amachree announced he would share his decision on Friday, May 23.

Amachree is currently crystal-balled to land with the Michigan State Spartans, his hometown team, with the Indiana Hoosiers holding onto a 24.4 percent chance to land the running back, followed by the Pitt Panthers at 20.9 percent, according to On3.

However, the Jayhawks have worked heavily to flip Amachree's interest to head coach Lance Leipold and the Kansas football program.

Amachree is set to announce his college decision at 2 p.m. CT from his school, Haslett High School, on Friday, May 23, and the decision will be streamed on WLNS 6 Sports, a local Lansing station.

Amachree narrowed down his choices to six schools a few days before announcing his decision date, including Harvard and Kansas, alongside the three programs that are favored to land his commitment.

Kory Amachree high school stats

  • 74 carries
  • 560 rushing yards
  • 8 rushing touchdowns
  • 1 reception
  • 36 receiving yards
  • 1 receiving touchdown

As a junior, Amachree was only able to play in two games for Haslett, but he already amassed an incredible stat line during his first season of varsity football. His only reception during the 2024-25 season was for 36 yards and a touchdown, bringing his season TD total to nine.

Odds favor the Spartans to land Amacharee for their class of 2026 prospects, but the Jayhawks took a step in the right direction when they were included in his final six programs. Now, fans will just have to wait to see which program the young running back commits to.
