A familiar face has reemerged as a top target for Kansas football. Recent indications hint that the Jayhawks could receive a commitment from David Abajian this week.

The Kansas Jayhawks have picked up commitments from three offensive linemen in their 2024 class. However, positions coach Scott Fuchs could be looking at a new pledge in a couple of days.

David Abajian is a 3-star offensive lineman who attends Chaminade in West Hills, California. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Abajian is rated the 871st-best player in his graduating year according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. He is also the 62nd interior lineman and 64th player out of the state of California.

Abajian initially cut his list of schools to three, even taking an official visit to Lawrence this past June. Although he was considered the leading target in the trenches for Fuchs this summer, he wound up selecting Oregon State over the Kansas Jayhawks and California.

Now, he has re-opened his recruitment due to the uncertainty of the Pac-12 Conference and what Oregon State’s future holds. It was reported that he would look back into the schools he was first contemplating between, suggesting KU and Cal are back in the mix.

After two weeks of reflection, Abajian has made his college decision and will announce it this Thursday. Just yesterday, two recruiting analysts from 247 Sports — Michael Swain and Greg Biggins — put in crystal balls in favor of the Jayhawks.

If Abajian were to commit to Kansas football, he would become the 16th in the 2024 class. He’d also join Carter Lavrusky, Harrison Utley, and Kene Anene as incoming freshmen.

Being that there had been very little chatter surrounding his recruitment recently, it is a fantastic sign to see those crystal balls being put in. Swain has not missed any of his predictions for this class, and Biggins has been correct on 57-of-58. Until further notice, we should expect Abajian to don the crimson and blue hat in two days.
