Kansas basketball: Labaron Philon confirms official visit date with Jayhawks
Labaron Philon included Kansas basketball in his final four list, and he is set to attend his official visit to Lawrence from Sept. 22-24.
One of the top guards in the 2024 recruiting class will visit the Kansas Jayhawks campus next weekend.
Labaron Philon is a dynamic scorer and facilitator. At 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, he offers versatility at either guard spot at the collegiate level.
247 Sports rates him a 4-star prospect, the 27th-best player, and the 3rd-best point guard in the Class of 2024. On3 recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw wrote this about Philon in his scouting report:
“Labaron Philon is a quick-on-quick lead guard. He has long arms and a projectable frame with wide shoulders. Philon has a quick handle that gets him into the paint. He can knock down a jump shot with three-point range and consistency. There is a confidence and a competitiveness with Philon. He needs to add strength as he has a slight frame. There is upside on the defensive end; he can move his feet guarding the ball and is quick to get into the passing lanes. There is a natural smoothness he has on the ball with an upside to continue getting better.”
He is coming off a strong junior year, which saw him win Mr. Basketball in Alabama. Across three seasons at Baker High, he totaled 2,334 points, with more than 1,000 coming in 2022-23.
This summer, he transferred to Missouri basketball powerhouse Link Academy. Fellow Kansas basketball recruiting target Tre Johnson, a top-five incoming senior, will be one of his teammates.

Philon will choose between a pair of Big 12 and SEC schools. Kansas, Alabama, Cincinnati, and Ole Miss are in the mix. He is expected to take official visits to each school before coming to a decision, which would likely come in early to mid-October.
He was once committed to Bruce Pearl and Auburn before backing out this past April. Considering the Tigers were not included in his final list, it seems they are out of the conversation for Philon.
The news comes a day after KU hoops hopeful Jalil Bethea supposedly verbally committed to Miami (FL) on his official visit. If Bethea is indeed off the Kansas basketball recruiting radar, Philon would make for a fine replacement.
