Tre Johnson, the most highly coveted recruit in the Class of 2024, is embarking on his visit with Kansas basketball this weekend.

The Kansas Jayhawks do not have the pedigree of top recruits that Duke and Kentucky have in the past, but Bill Self is still one of the best recruiters in the country. He proved that when he got Hunter Dickinson to commit to Kansas.

KU is now looking to bring the top prospect in next year’s high school class on board. Tre Johnson is a 6-foot-5 guard who is the No. 1 player in the Class of 2024. He would be the Jayhawks’ highest-rated recruit of all time.

Johnson is set to arrive in Lawrence today (Friday, May 5th) and continue his visit until Sunday. Former KU guard and now-assistant coach Jeremy Case is leading the way for his recruitment.

As a senior, Johnson led Lake Highlands to a 34-3 record and the second-best high school ranking in the state of Texas. Johnson averaged 23 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He won Mr. Texas Basketball Player of the Year for his incredible achievements at school.

His father played at Baylor, and they are considered one of the favorites to land Johnson, among others. Kentucky, Texas, and Arkansas are the other schools that Kansas is competing with. KU has been recruiting Johnson for quite some time and could offer him several prospects that other programs cannot.

He is a surefire one-and-done player, but no player is more NBA-ready than Johnson. His offensive skill set is unique, and he can shoot from anywhere on the floor. Johnson is projected to be a top-5 NBA Draft selection.

While chances of landing him are slim, Kansas should continue to pursue Johnson heavily. He would immediately bolster the outlook of the 2024-25 roster and form one of the best backcourts in the country with Dajuan Harris.
