Kansas football was unable to receive commitments from Nick Marsh or Xavier Porter. Marsh committed to Michigan State, while the latter pledged to Louisville.

The Kansas Jayhawks have been on a hot streak on the recruiting trail in the past month, but they missed out on a pair of impressive high school recruits in the past few days.

Nick Marsh, a tall, physical wideout from River Rouge in Michigan, is the No. 54 player in the Rivals Class of 2024 rankings. He chose the Spartans over Kansas, Penn State, Oregon, and Pitt. The Jayhawks had once been considered a long shot to land him but began to pick up steam in the late stages of his recruitment. However, he wound up circling back to the school he was committed to as a junior.

The hope was for Marsh to join fellow Michigan native Isaiah Marshall to play in Lawrence. Marshall, the No. 849 player in the 247 Sports Composite, is without a wide receiver in his graduating class. It’s an area that Lance Leipold’s coaching staff will have to recruit vigorously once the NCAA Dead Period concludes on July 24.

He would have been the most highly touted recruit in Kansas football history since the induction of Rivals/247 Sports high school rankings. To even be in the conversation for a player of his caliber is encouraging, so it can be chalked up as somewhat of a moral victory for the program.

Meanwhile, Porter included Kansas in his top three on June 19, along with Louisville and Penn State. The 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive end, who attends Tampa Catholic in Florida, is the No. 669 player and No. 67 defensive end in the 247 Sports Composite.

Marsh was thought of as more of a realistic target, as Porter was believed to be a Cardinal for quite some time. Regardless, it would have been impressive for KU to add another highly touted edge rusher opposite of recent commit Deshawn Warner.

Other targets for KU include Michael Boganowski and Elias Williams. Boganowski is the No. 1 player in the state of Kansas and would be a big-time get. The Jayhawks have been closely monitoring the linebacker from Junction City, who does not seem to be in a rush to make a decision yet.
