The Kansas football 2024 recruiting class picked up Deshawn Warner yesterday, the third and perhaps most impactful commitment out of Desert Edge this summer.

Deshawn Warner committed to the Kansas Jayhawks via Instagram Live. Warner is a 6-foot-4 225-pound EDGE from Goodyear, Arizona. Warner chose the Jayhawks over Power 5 schools Texas, Washington, Arizona, and Oregon State. Warner is rated as the No. 673 ranked recruit in the 2024 recruiting class by 247 Sports Composite rankings.

He becomes the 14th commit so far in the 2024 recruiting class for the Jayhawks. It is a huge pickup for Lance Leipold and the staff, as fending off programs like Washington and Texas should not go unnoticed. Warner’s commitment moves Kansas’ 2024 recruiting class to No. 35 in the country, according to 247 Sports.

Jordan Peterson continues to be one of the best recruiters on the Kansas coaching staff. He has now brought Aundre Gibson, Jonathan Kamara, and now Warner, all students from Desert Edge High School in the Phoenix area. It is worth noting that Gibson and Warner are cousins, so the family aspect certainly helped KU’s cause here.

Warner will bring much-needed athleticism and size to the defensive line, which could be debated as the weakest part of the team going into the 2023-2024 season. Warner seems to have the weight and body type to make an immediate impact in the 2024 season on the defensive line.

If there was one criticism of the Kansas 2024 recruiting class so far, it would be not getting any commits on the defensive line. Warner certainly helps with that and allows Lance Leipold and the staff to focus on a select few guys in the fall to round out a very strong recruiting class.

The Warner commitment likely wraps up the recruiting period for the summer. Next up for Lance Leipold: Fall camp and getting ready for the 2023-2024 season. It is important to use this season to continue building momentum and keeping this promising 2024 recruiting class committed.
