Landing Missouri Southern transfer Cam Martin, Kansas basketball might’ve just picked up a much-needed consistent scorer.

Finding consistency from at the basket has been the name of the game for any program, and Kansas basketball might’ve just found a strong shooting asset in Cam Martin.

The 6′ 9” shooting guard committed to Kansas a few days ago, choosing the Jayhawks’ program over interest from Texas, Creighton, Georgetown, and UNLV.

A leading MIAA scorer, Martin averaged 25 points per game this past season and was one of Missouri Southern’s most consistent shooters from the three-point line at 57.8 percent.

Martin could bring a level of stability to Kansas’ offense, which would make a difference in conference play.

If Kansas could find consistent scoring from Cam, it should give the Jayhawks’ offense enough of a push to keep this team within an arm’s reach when things get tough.

There is also the factor of how Martin will transition into the Big 12 conference, which seems to be only getting stronger following this past season.

To Cam’s benefit, he’s played a decent amount of college basketball. We should hope that he can blend his talents into Kansas’ roster and find some early chemistry.

Kansas also has some open spots, which is another issue they’re addressing this offseason. Moving in some older, more reliable playmakers is the right move and should strengthen this offense down the stretch.

Considering that Tyon Grant-Foster, Tristan Enaruna, and Gethro Muscadin have now all departed the Jayhawks’ program, it makes sense why head coach Bill Self would see an opportunity to use some scholarship dollars on Martin.
