The Kansas football team is getting some national television attention. Some disappointing and some surprising after three weeks of the season.

I know die-hard Kansas football fans watch many if not all the pre-game post-game shows during the season. The Jayhawks rarely get mentioned until basketball season. On the other hand, ESPN’s College GameDay included the Jayhawks in the first two weekends of the season.

ESPN’s College GameDay mentioned the 2007 Kansas football team during the Saturday September 2, show. Reporter Tom Rinaldi showed a graphic of teams that earned at least a rank of number 2 in the nation that season. A graphic prominently featured the Jayhawk logo and six other schools.

Later that day, ESPN’s Football Final featured Kansas Wide Receiver Chase Harrell’s one-handed touchdown grab against Southeast Missouri State. The catch made the top plays of that day’s action. It seems like a long time ago, doesn’t it?

During GameDay’s pick the winner segment on September 9, the Kansas football team earned another surprising mention. When they mentioned the Boise at Washington State game someone referenced senior transfer Montell Cozart competing for the quarterback job with the Broncos. “Oh yes, Cozart the former Kansas Jayhawk,” said host Rece Davis.

Cozart announced in February his intention to transfer. NCAA rules allowed to play this season and in May he selected Boise State.  He’s seen a lot of the field in the Broncos first three games.  He started a week ago, ran for a 28-yard first quarter touchdown and helped the Broncos beat New Mexico.

The former Bishop Miege high school standout is playing well in Boise. On the other hand, he’s had a few struggles too. He has completed 68 per cent of his 48 passes and thrown 5-touchdowns in three games. He did also gave up a costly interception that led to Washington State’s comeback from a 21-point 4th quarter deficit to beat Cozart and the Broncos in triple overtime.
