A week from now Kansas football fans will know who will quarterback the Jayhawks. Here is why Carter Stanley deserves the job.

With just days to go to start the regular season, Kansas football fans still do not know who will inherit the Jayhawk’s starting quarterback job.  As a matter of fact, coach David Beaty refuses to say much about the quarterback battle between transfer Peyton Bender and Carter Stanley.  One of these student athletes could make or break the football season.

All we know about Bender is what little the coaches say and a few media reports. He knows Offensive Coordinator Doug Meacham’s offense, has a quick release and played briefly for Mike Leach at Washington State. Every media publication assumes Bender will take the starting job. On the other hand, I think Carter Stanley might be a wise choice to start the season.

Kansas football fans are tired of hoping the next fresh face transfer quarterback might set the Big 12 on fire.  It hasn’t happened and I don’t believe Bender is ready to do that.  No, I have not been to a team scrimmage. However, we all saw what Stanley can do at the end of last season.

Despite what Beaty and Meacham expected last winter, Stanley is the best choice to start the season. He knows the Air-Raid offense too. After what he did to lead the team over Texas, maybe he deserves the start. In light of the fact he sparked the Jayhawks in 2016, he is a safe bet to begin 2017.

In addition, Stanley has a sixth sense. He knows when to ditch the pass play and run.  He ran 32 times last season for 124-yards. He had one carry for 36-yards.  Bender may have the better delivery. Stanley may have the best chance to lead Kansas football to victory.
