Will Kansas football use a 2 quarterback system?

The Kansas football season opens in three weeks. Is coach David Beaty any closer to naming a starting quarterback or two ?

It really surprised me when Montel Cozart ran on the field to lead the Kansas football team in last year’s season opener.  David Beaty’s choice said a lot to me. He did not have a quality quarterback or did not have one ready to lead the team.

Cozart, who I thought had the skills to succeed, is now at Boise State. Ryan Willis, who set Jayhawk freshman records, is on the roster at Virginia Tech.  Both are talented but limited in their ability to succeed. I hope they do well elsewhere.

This 2017 quarterback battle includes transfer Peyton Bender and Carter Stanley. Both are familiar with Doug Meacham’s offense. Fans got a taste of Stanley when he started the final three games of 2016.  As a matter of fact, I think Stanley leading the team to the win over Texas should count for something.  Above all, that win set the tone for this season.

We only know what we have read and been told about Bender.  Kansas football fans are wary of wonderful transfer quarterbacks. Recent transfer quarterbacks have not provided much success at KU. On the other hand, the offensive line probably didn’t give them the time to complete enough passes for success. The Jayhawks have a more experienced line this season.

Other than saying they are working hard, Coach Beaty does not say much about the quarterback battle during to the media. I don’t blame him. Why should he reveal any secrets to the opposition?  I really hope he doesn’t plan on a two-quarterback system. Surely he won’t do that, or will he?  The team needs one guy calling the signals.
