We all know Kansas basketball players occasionally leave early for the NBA draft. It’s tough to see any of them leave, especially the great ones.

Everyone is in hurry to get paid to play. They see the bright lights and want to run to the cash. Fortunately, Bill Self has only had a handful of players who left before they were ready.

I was glad Ben McLemore left when he did. It was the right decision for many reasons. I was mad when Josh Selby left. It was a bonehead decision and one I’m sure he regrets.

Did you watch the press conference when Xavier Henry announced his decision to leave Kansas basketball and turn pro? My wife still cries when she thinks about it.

I will never believe he wanted to leave college life that day.

We may shed a tear when we see Josh Jackson or Andrew Wiggins depart as expected. We know they are ready for prime time.

So many student athletes live in a world of make believe. They are catered to in junior high, high school and then begged to join a college program.

This happens in football too. However, not as many leave college early for the NFL draft. Although, those kids get burned too.

The NFL reported 28 of the nearly 100 early entry draft players never received a call this month.

One Kansas basketball player who is considering skipping his final season was raised in a very different environment than the “it’s all about me” world of the United States.

Svi Mykhailiuk showed off his skills during the pre-draft combine in Chicago.

According to Gary Bedore in the Kansas City Star, Svi might want to think twice about turning pro this year.

Svi has a lot to consider. II hope he makes it on an NBA roster. I hope he earns at degree at KU first.
