Kansas basketball fans are very proud of NCAA Player of the Year Frank Mason. We expect the best for him in this week’s NBA draft.

Frank Mason has been on an amazing ride since arriving in Lawrence.  Kansas basketball fans are well aware of his story.  From Petersburg, Virginia to Kansas basketball hero.  The young man has a college degree and a large room full trophies for an incredible basketball season.

While teammate Josh Jackson will get more headlines in the week ahead, I prefer to concentrate on Mason.  This is his week. He has worked very hard and done just what is necessary to play in the NBA. There are millions of questions, options and possibilities.  I wonder how he sleeps. It’s Christmas Eve times one million.

Since he walked the hill at KU graduation on May 14, Mason has made many stops around the country.  Despite the hard work and intense schedule at the most important time of this life, Mason is making us smile.

Most recently, Mason returned to Sacramento to work out a second time for the decision makers with the Kings. Coach Bill Self said this week he was optimistic about Mason’s draft status as reported in the Kansas City Star.  The head coach is very careful with his words. I doubt he would say much unless he had some positive news on Mason.

Other than coach Self, the Kansas basketball staff and teammates, few know what goes on behind Mason’s intense eyes.  He is as determined as anyone to win. Kansas basketball saw that the past four seasons.  I don’t understand how NBA executives make decisions. On the other hand,  some of their decisions make no sense.  I hope just the right decision is made on behalf of Mason during this week’s draft.
