Kansas sits hours away from a week one matchup against FCS side Wagner. Last week, when Kansas took on Fresno State in a Week Zero matchup, sixth-year quarterback Jalon Daniels made an instant impact.
The Lawndale, California native pushed an exceptional stat line, which saw Daniels complete 18 of his 20 attempts for 176 yards and three touchdowns, all while managing an 87.0 QBR according to ESPN. That 87.0 rating totals the best in the NCAA for a Week Zero game.
Adam Rittenberg of ESPN published a telling article where Rittenberg spoke with some NCAA coaches, where the topic at hand was the quarterbacks. Among the elite quarterbacks involved was Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels.
Here are the quotes Rittenberg collected “I really like the Kansas guy, he's probably my favorite in the league.”A Big 12 coach told Rittenberg, "When push comes to shove, that guy knows how to just stay calm and make stuff happen."
According to Rittenberg, there were questions over his consistency.
"The Kansas kid is hit and miss.” "He's kind of hot and cold, but he's a heck of an athlete."
Daniels spent the first five games of last season for the Jayhawks, battling that said inconsistency as Daniels compiled five touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Yet when Kansas was able to pick up its results, so did Daniels. Daniels finished the year with nine touchdowns and four interceptions as Kansas compiled a 4-3 record over the last seven games, just narrowly missing out on a bowl game thanks to a 45-17 loss to the Baylor Bears.
With the added help of transfer wideouts Emmanuel Henderson Jr. and Cam Pickett, who notched an impressive debut with Kansas last week. The next chance to see Daniels and his team in action is at David Booth Memorial Stadium when Kansas hosts the Seahawks at 6:30 PM CT.
