In what will be the latest known tipoff in the No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks’ season, without head coach Bill Self, the Jayhawks will be traveling to Boulder to take on the Colorado Buffaloes.
KU athletics released a statement on Monday disclosing that Self had been checked into LMH Health after feeling “under the weather.”
Earlier today, Kansas announced that assistant Jacque Vaughn would be filling in for tonight instead of Self.
The Buffs are one of the better attacking forces in the nation as they tally 83.2 points per game, which ranks 50th in the country.
Tad Boyle’s team consistently averages four scorers who tally at least 10 points per game. Leading the team is guard Isaiah Johnson. Johnson averages 15.8 points per game, with guard Barrington Hargress right behind him with 13.7. Following Hargress is forward Sebastian Rancik and Bangot Dak, who score 13.2 and 11.4 points respectively.
If Colorado can get going early, it can cause the Jayhawks issues. As it stands, the Buffaloes rank 34th in the country with a superb 48.4% field goal rate.
Kansas’ struggles away from Allen Fieldhouse
The Jayhawks have dropped both of their away games this season in conference play. The first was a conference-opening 81-75 loss to the UCF Golden Knights. Two games later, Kansas strolled into Morgantown, West Virginia, and got blitzed by the Mountaineers in an 86-75 loss.
Since then, Kansas has been fortunate to host their next two at the Fieldhouse, where the momentum of the season has swung back in its favor.
Now, Kansas is set to take on Colorado and Kansas State in its next two fixtures, both away from home.
For now, the Jayhawks must have their sights on what can be a dangerous Buffalo team; however, ESPN’s analytics give the Jayhawks a 79.9% of moving to 14-5 overall and to 4-2 in conference play.
