The 2026 Kansas football recruiting class is quickly shaping up to be one of the best in school history. A total of 13 Jayhawk commits are currently pledged to KU, giving Lance Leipold and his coaching staff the No. 3 recruiting class in the country, per 247 Sports.
The top-ranked player from that group is JJ Dunnigan, an incredibly gifted 6-foot-2 safety. While he is a year away from making his way to Lawrence, Dunnigan continues to impress scouts. In a recent ranking update, the No. 2 player in the state was boosted to a 4-star athlete across all three major recruiting sites.

JJ Dunnigan now rated as a 4-star across all recruiting sites
With the update, Dunnigan is now ranked the No. 244 player nationally on Rivals and On3.com. Meanwhile, 247 Sports rates him much higher at No. 112 in the country. They also rank him as the No. 13 ATH in his class, as he plans to play both sides of the ball in college.
Originally from Manhattan, Dunnigan chose to attend KU in January over schools like K-State, Nebraska, and Stanford. He is currently headlining the Jayhawks' already impressive class, which features fellow top in-state prospects like OT Kaden Snyder and EDGE Hunter Higgins.
Dunnigan still has a ways to go before making his way to campus, but Leipold is assembling yet another impressive recruiting class. Kansas fans will continue to watch him closely amid his chase for the coveted 5-star ranking.
