Most football fans are anxiously waiting in the wings for this weekend, yet for the Kansas Jayhawks, they are already in shape with a dominant 31-7 week zero win at the hands of Fresno State last weekend.
For head coach Lance Leipold, tonight against FCS side Wagner provides the optimal tune-up game for the Jayhawks to keep their early-season momentum going, especially before Kansas takes on Missouri next weekend, for the first time since 2011.
Our staff at Through the Phog compiled their weekly predcitions for how the game would play out.
Connor Mardian: Kansas 35-3 Wagner
I think relatively early in this game, fans will see the second-string, the last thing you want is a the team lose star players especially ahead of Missouri next weekend.
Joel Wagler: Kansas 42-7 Wagner
Kansas should overwhelm Wagner in every aspect of the game. The score would be higher, but head coach Lance Leipold tends to pull back during blowouts. This should be an easy one for the Jayhawks.
Tyler Key: Kansas 55-10 Wagner
There is a massive talent disparity in this game, which means a blowout win is likely. Luckily, Jayhawk fans will still have some fun things to watch late in the game. Isaiah Marshall's first pass attempts for KU feel imminent, and I'm predicting a two-TD performance from the backup QB.
Riley Hibdon: Kansas 48-14 Wagner
I think the Jayhawks ride the high of last week's win and take it into this game. The offense will likely be extremely productive against a lackluster defense. The KU defense should be strong, but may take its foot off the gas towards the end of the contest. I’d be utterly shocked if KU travels to Colombia with a record that is not 2-0.
Logan Rosengard: Kansas 63-13 Wagner
I think Kansas 50-burgers this Wagner team. Imagine a football game between Rick Moranis’s Little Giants youth team and the 2025 Kansas Jayhawks. That’s what this game will be. The offense is rolling and will continue to dominate against a weaker Wagner, and I believe the defense will progress from their performance last week against Fresno State.
Kickoff takes place at 6:30 PM CT at David Booth Kansas stadium.
