Since Lance Leipold took over at the helm of Kansas football in 2021, he has produced some incredible talent on both sides of the ball. Two Jayhawks were selected in this year’s NFL Draft, and a few more are expected to hear their names called at the podium in 2025.

One of those draft hopefuls is cornerback Cobee Bryant. The incoming senior is one of the best shutdown defensive backs in the nation and earned consecutive All-Big 12 First Team selections. In a scouting report by the NFL Stock Exchange podcast, analyst Trevor Sikkema had a priceless player comparison for Bryant that will surely give Jayhawk fans a chuckle.

Cobee Bryant draws comparison to polarizing NBA player

"I almost made his player comp Patrick Beverley. He's just the most in your face, talking s***, lock-you-down type of a defender."

NFL Stock Exchange's Trevor Sikkema

Rather than comparing him to a cornerback in the NFL or NCAA, Sikkema sees a resemblance to NBA veteran Patrick Beverley in Bryant. Obviously not because of their play styles, considering they compete in different sports, but more because of their trash-talking nature.

If you aren’t familiar with him, Beverley is one of the most outspoken players in the NBA. He is infamously known for jawing at his opponents on the court. While he has carved out a respectable professional career and was named to three All-Defensive teams, there’s a reason why players respect him — “Pat-Bev” was voted the league’s biggest trash talker a year ago.

Honestly, we can’t blame Sikkema for thinking this. Much of what makes Bryant so effective is built off him getting into the wide receiver’s head and throwing them off their game. Thankfully, he has done a pretty good job of backing it up in past seasons, but he must prove himself after going back and forth with K-State fans and quarterback Avery Johnson on Twitter.

Bryant is one of several Jayhawks with NFL potential on this year’s roster, and there is a good chance he will make it to the next level in 2025. His chances of doing so might be higher if he continues to work on his trash talk.
