EA Sports sent shockwaves through the college football universe by confirming they would release the most anticipated sports video game in recent history — College Football 25. Luckily for Kansas Jayhawks fans, they will have the opportunity to play with their favorite team when it comes out this summer.

The KU football program confirmed gamers can use Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks in the game. A college football video game has not been released to the public since 2013 when NCAA Football 14 came out. EA Sports rebranded the video game after over a decade of waiting, and Kansas should be one of the highest-ranked teams.

All Power 4 schools and likely any team in the FBS is expected to appear in College Football 25. EA Sports confirmed that classic game modes such as Dynasty and Road to Glory will return, including an Ultimate Team-style mode similar to what they offer in Madden. But while the team approved the use of its logos and school name, some Jayhawks might not be present.

Each student-athlete competing on a squad that opted in will have the decision to accept or decline the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). If they deny access, their names won't be in the game, and EA Sports revealed to fans that it won't be possible to create custom rosters with their names like it was in past editions.

Additionally, fans are wondering whether they will play home games at Arrowhead Stadium — where the Jayhawks will play four home games amid construction for David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium — or the new model in Lawrence that has yet to be completed.

Thankfully, most players are expected to opt into the clause because they will receive no less than $600 and a free copy of the game if they do. Therefore, it shouldn't be too much of an issue in the long run.

Many question marks remain for Kansas football fans, but those interested in playing a college football video game with the Jayhawks are in luck. Reports suggest the game will be unveiled sometime this summer, potentially as early as July.
