A substantial pillar of the Kansas football rebuild has been cornerback Cobee Bryant. The Florida-based junior has recorded 92 tackles, 15 passes defended, and nine interceptions across his three years with the Jayhawks, including a tide-changing pick in Tuesday's bowl win.

Although key players such as Jalon Daniels, Devin Neal, and Mello Dotson have confirmed they will return for a senior season, Bryant has been mentioned as a candidate to depart for the NFL or transfer portal. He and Austin Booker are among the last Jayhawks that fans are waiting on a decision from, though the latter seems likely to enter the draft.

The star defensive back promised KU fans an announcement video once his YouTube hit 3,500 subscribers. Despite eclipsing the 4,000 mark, he has yet to release it — and a tweet he sent out yesterday suggests his reveal might not be what the Jayhawk faithful is hoping for.

Michael Swain, a KU insider for 247 Sports, posted an article about the outlook of Kansas football for the 2024 season. In the piece, he has a short excerpt that reads: "On defense, the likes of Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson are expected to be back..." Bryant responded to that post with a cynical "lol."

While this tweet means Cobee could be trying to play mind games ahead of his return announcement, there's also a possibility that he has not made up his mind yet. He has played well enough this season to garner NFL attention.

All KU fans can do is hope he drops some good news in the coming weeks. Now that the Jayhawks have lost backups Kwinton Lassiter and Kalon Gervin to graduation, the only cornerbacks with real game experience are Mello Dotson and Bryant. Losing Bryant would be a massive blow with the impending exit of Austin Booker, there could be some serious regression for Kansas' defense next year.
