As Kenny Logan Jr. waits for his future to unfold, Leipold will have to decide which Jayhawk should fill his shoes.

The best news for the Jayhawks’ head coach is that he didn’t lose all of his roster at this position. With quite a few returners, the reason this position will be such a battle is simply due to the plethora of players available.

As O.J. Burroughs, Marvin Grant, and Jalen Dye all stay in Lawrence and Damani Maxson starts his collegiate career, the Jayhawks can rest assured that their secondary will be in good hands.

But who gets the starting spot? Burroughs frequently started alongside Logan when the defensive strategy called for two safeties on the field so I’m leaning towards him as the go-to guy.

However, Grant and Dye both had fairly impressive 2023 seasons and show a lot of promise for their futures. Maxson is a three-star recruit out of Houston and while he may not become a starter right away, I doubt it’ll be long before he’s seeing a lot of time on the field.
