Draft day is upon us, and the Kansas football program has a handful of players who could hear their names called at the podium.
While it is highly unlikely that any former Jayhawks will be selected on Day 1, the team boasts multiple potential Day 2 or 3 picks. Which Kansas players should fans be on the lookout for as the draft moves along?
Six Kansas football alumni have draft potential
The Jayhawk playing a skill position with the most likely chance of being drafted is hometown hero Devin Neal, the program’s all-time leading rusher. An elusive, powerful tailback, Neal is a workhorse who could bud into a star in the right system.
Wide receiver Quentin Skinner also offers under-the-radar potential. At 6-foot-5, Skinner ran a blazing 4.51 40-yard dash. His physical and athletic tools make him an intriguing option as a late-round pick, though he will likely be signed as an undrafted free agent.
On the other side of the ball, cornerback duo Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson have next-level talent. Bryant was one of KU’s greatest defensive backs in school history, while Dotson made his name off of big plays, graduating Kansas as the school’s all-time pick-6 leader.
Dotson could be taken in a later round, but Bryant is considered a sure-fire pick despite concerns about his size.
Offensive lineman Logan Brown was a terrific player in Lawrence. He will likely be drafted sometime in the fourth or fifth-round. However, a rising prospect in recent weeks has been Bryce Cabeldue, a four-year starting offensive lineman. He was the first Jayhawk to be taken in NFL.com’s latest mock draft.
Of these six Jayhawks, we predict that four will be drafted before the end of the week (Cabeldue, Neal, Bryant, and Brown). However, it would not be surprising if a team took a chance on Skinner or Dotson for a Day 3 pick.
