UPDATE: During halftime of the Kentucky vs. Louisville game, the ESPN team said that their sources are telling them that Peterson is dealing with a hamstring injury.
If you're worried about the health of 5-star Kansas basketball freshman and superstar player Darryn Peterson right now, trust us when we say you're not the only one. Out of nowhere, Peterson was ruled out for Tuesday night's contest and he was spotted in street clothes right before tip-off.
Darryn Peterson ruled out for Kansas out of nowhere and fans are worried
From the moment it was revealed that Peterson wasn't going to be playing against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, fans have been going into panic mode, as Peterson has clearly been a bit banged up early on this campaign. According to Shreyas Laddha of the Kansas City Star, a KU spokesperson confirmed that Peterson wouldn't play, but no reason was given. That same spokesperson told Laddha that Self would 'address the absence' after the final whistle. Okay then?
Darryn Peterson injury update: 5-star freshman ruled out for Kansas on Tuesday night
On Friday night, Kansas traveled to Chapel Hill and faced off against North Carolina. It was a primetime battle, but unfortunately the Jayhawks weren't able to come out on top and they've since dropped to No. 25 in the rankings. UNC is now the No. 18 team in the country.
Peterson finished with 22 points in that game, which was great to see. He and Seth Trimble were in a battle all night and while the UNC senior looked sharp defending Peterson, no one can argue with the fact that the Kansas playmaker played strong too. He and Caleb Wilson lived up to the hype.
Despite that excitement, there's now a ton of concern over Peterson's injury status. He has been working through some cramping issues this fall and those issues don't seem to be going away. While Kansas never wants to overlook an opponent, could this just have been a case of load management for Peterson against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi?
That's what everyone is hoping for, but the fact that nothing was reported before the game and the news of him not playing came in from out of the blue understandably has everyone talking. Self will address this soon enough, but with such a vague explanation from Kansas via that report from the KC Star, it only adds more questions here.
