No. 25 Kansas five-star Darryn Peterson has shown his ability straight from the jump. After an unofficial debut in an exhibition against Louisville, the world saw his potential: 26 points on a phenomenal 9-15 rate from the field. However, Peterson missed a majority of the second half with cramping. Peterson then missed all of the Jayhawks’ second exhibition, a 71-35 win over Fort Hays State, Kansas head coach Bill Self claimed it was due to a stomach bug.
Latest Darryn Peterson injury update leaves Kansas fans with more questions
In Peterson’s first game of the regular season, a 94-51 win over Green Bay, where Peterson scored 22 points on 7-11 shooting, he yet again missed out on a majority of the second half.
When asked whether Peterson did not enter due to the nature of Kansas’s large lead or cramps, Self was quoted as saying.
“Probably a combination, it was bothering him, he said he felt it [cramps] coming on, so no reason to [put him back in]. We need to practice tomorrow, so hopefully we can get him out there for practice tomorrow. But yeah, that was the primary reason. If it has been a closer game, I’m sure he would have tried to go back out there.”
5-star Kansas freshman Darryn Peterson was officially ruled out for Kansas vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
In the Jayhawks’ sole loss, an 87-74 loss to the No. 18 UNC Tar Heels, Peterson did not shy away from the occasion, a 22-point outing on 8-14 shooting. Peterson played for 28 minutes, although he did incur foul trouble, which split up his time on the court.
Tonight, Peterson was pictured ahead of tipoff in street clothes, the universal sign of a player set to miss out.
