Things are no question moving quite quickly between the Kansas Jayhawks and touted transfer power forward Darrion Williams. Earlier in the day, news broke that Williams had officially removed his name from the NBA Draft and that he'll be back in the college game next season.
Almost immediately, Kansas was named as a prime contender, with the Jayhawks battling NC State and others for the playmaker's services. Well, there's another reason to be excited here. Per reporter Gary Bedore, Williams is currently in Lawrence on an official visit. Bill Self is working overtime on the Texas Tech transfer and the hope is he'll commit before leaving town. Will that end up being the case?
5-star transfer SF Darrion Williams is on his Kansas visit right now
You've got to imagine Self and all of his coaches are rolling out the red carpet for Williams. The Big 12 powerhouse has an incredible opportunity to turn his head while he's on campus. Can you imagine if Williams is sold on everything and decides to not take other visits? It'd be incredible.
For now, though, it's totally up in the air if that's going to be the case or not, but Self has the first chance to really make an impact on him now that Williams is going through this new recruitment process. Adding him to the 2025-26 roster would be sensational.
There are plenty of disappointed Kansas fans with 5-star shooting guard Dame Sarr likely on his way to play for Duke. Sarr, an Italian prospect, was previously expected to commit to the Jayhawks following an official visit, but things changed there.
While he might end up being Duke-bound, bringing in Williams this late in the portal stage would end up being a dream come true for so many people out there. Williams was stellar for Texas Tech last season and he's 100 percent in store for a big campaign in 2025-26. Will said campaign be with Kansas and Self? We're about to find out.
