Just a couple of months ago, former Texas Tech star forward Darrion Williams declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, also entering the transfer portal to keep his future options open. Now, Williams has withdrawn his name from the Draft and is looking to find his next collegiate program.
Currently, the Kansas Jayhawks and head coach Bill Self have appeared as one of just two programs that are frontrunners to earn Williams' commitment. The Jayhawks, alongside the NC State Wolfpack, were reported as the likely favorites to land Williams after the rising senior withdrew from the Draft.
Kansas hasn't had a ton of success in the portal this offseason, but the addition of a star like Williams could boost the slightly lacking transfer class to the standard of a blue-blood program.
Last season, his second for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Williams started in all 34 of the team's games, averaging 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Prior to playing for the Raiders, Williams began his collegiate career with the Nevada Wolf Pack.
Darrion Williams college career stats
- 11.4 points per game
- 6.7 rebounds per game
- 3.0 assists per game
- 1.3 steals per game
- 0.4 blocks per game
At just 6-foot-6, Williams is on the shorter side for a collegiate forward, but his high IQ and on-court vision lead to him being a defensive menace as well as playing an impressive role on the offensive end of the court.
Self and the Jayhawks currently lay claim to the No. 62 transfer portal class in the nation, losing six players (four four-stars and two three-stars) while only bringing in three new transfer prospects (three four-stars.
Williams, who is rated as a four-star transfer portal prospect, would fill a lot of the holes that currently exist on Kansas's roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.
