When people think about Kansas football, they probably wonder why they aren't actually thinking of Kansas basketball, since the Jayhawks have always been a basketball school. However, head coach Lance Leipold has been able to turn things around in Lawrence, at least in Kansas standards.

Some may not believe back-to-back 5-7 seasons is turning things around, especially after a 9-4 season in 2023, but for Kansas, being more competitive in the Big 12 is a huge step forward. While fans probably won't want a third straight 5-7 record, Leipold is hoping things get better this upcoming season, and he is certainly building for the future as well.

Kansas held its biggest official visit group this past weekend in Lawrence, and Leipold put on an absolute masterclass in recruiting, gaining a magnificent six commitments by the time recruits left campus.

Lance Leipold lands 6 commitment during Kansas' biggest official visit weekend

Kansas not only gained six commitments over the weekend, but also some ground in the national recruiting rankings. The Jayhawks moved up to No. 34 in the 247Sports 2027 Team Recruiting Rankings after this past weekend, and there is still time to continue making moves.

While this was the biggest official visit weekend for the Jayhawks, Leipold will still welcome prospects for the next couple of weekends in hopes of growing the Class of 2027.

Looking at this recent weekend, Leipold welcomed 12 prospects, with five of them already verbally committed to Kansas. That left seven players uncommitted, which means Leipold finished the weekend with only one player not choosing the Jayhawks after this weekend. That player was three-star wide receiver Jay Williams, who still has two more official visits on his calendar.

Williams is set to visit Arizona this upcoming weekend and then Oregon State the following weekend, and should hopefully have his decision made by then. According to 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction, Williams has one expert, On3 Kansas beat writer Michael Swain, believing he is leaning towards the Jayhawks.

It is not often, though, that you see a group of prospects head into an official visit weekend and all but one walk away with a commitment to that school. Leipold was ready to walk away with a handful of commitments on the weekend and accomplished his goal.

Now, Kansas is up to 15 commitments in the Class of 2027, just four short of its total number in 2026. The Jayhawks, as of right now, are set to host a total of 11 more prospects in the month of June, giving Leipold a great chance to surpass his commitment number from 2026.

Big things are happening in Lawrence, and Leipold is building something special at Kansas, and who knows, Indiana became both a basketball and football school, maybe Kansas is next.
