While Kansas basketball is beginning summer workouts, some former Jayhawks are awaiting where the next phase of their careers will take them. The NBA Draft is less than two weeks away, and while it is known that freshman Darryn Peterson will be a top-three pick in the NBA Draft, players like Melvin Council Jr. and Tre White don't have as clear a picture as to where they will go.

Both Council and White have been going through the NBA Draft process, working with teams, and showing off their skills to hopefully improve their draft stock. Neither White nor Council is expected to be a first-round pick, or even guaranteed to be picked at all in the two-round draft, but they could be top undrafted free agents for numerous teams.

Melvin Council Jr. and Tre White have worked out with a host of NBA teams ahead of the draft

Both Council and White have worked with multiple teams, even participating in workouts together, but their time as teammates has most likely come to an end. Council at this point probably has the better draft stock, as an NBA source recently told the Kansas City Star that the St. Bonaventure transfer has looked "great" at a particular workout and was doing "really, really good."

The most recent workouts that Council and White have done together were with the Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings, but there have been even more teams interested in the two. Council has worked out a total of 12 teams with the list below:

  • Phoenix Suns
  • New York Knicks
  • Charlotte Hornets
  • Dallas Mavericks
  • New Orleans Pelicans
  • Los Angeles Lakers
  • Indiana Pacers
  • Milwaukee Bucks
  • Detroit Picstons
  • Boston Celtics
  • Brooklyn Nets
  • Sacramento Kings

White has worked out with a total of 12 teams as well, a few similar to Council. His workout list is below:

  • Washington Wizards
  • Toronto Raptors
  • Charlotte Hornets
  • Minnesota Timberwolves
  • Denver Nuggets
  • Indiana Pacers
  • Phoenix Suns
  • Milwaukee Bucks
  • New York Knicks
  • Golden State Warriors
  • Brooklyn Nets
  • Sacramento Kings

Council and White put together a solid season for Kansas in 2025-2026. This past season was Council's lone one with the Jayhawks, transferring from St. Bonaventure. Council finished the season averaging 12.7 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, and really emerged as a Kansas star in the absence of Peterson.

White, on the other hand, had his fair share of struggles for Kansas this season, hitting a few lulls throughout the season, but finished strong, averaging 13.5 points per game, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in his lone season for the Jayhawks.

Both Council and White will learn their NBA future fate when the draft takes place on June 23-24 in Brooklyn, New York. Fans can watch the draft on ABC, ESPN, or the ESPN app.
