While no Kansas basketball player is expected to be selected in the 2025 NBA Draft, Zeke Mayo is the one former Jayhawk with an outside shot to make it to the next level. One of the best shooters in the country, Mayo had a strong season at KU after spending three years at South Dakota State.
With hopes to boost his draft stock, the Lawrence native participated in the 2025 PIT (Portsmouth Invitational Tournament). Mayo had a strong outing in the tournament's first game, scoring seven points while adding six assists and two rebounds in Portsmouth Partnership's 101-94 win over Norfolk Sports Club.
Zeke Mayo impresses scouts at Portsmouth Invitational Tournament
Mayo teamed up with other college stars like Penn State's Ace Baldwin Jr., Indiana's Oumar Ballo, and K-State's David N'Guessan on Portsmouth Partnership. He did not overwhelm opposing defenders, shooting just 3-for-7 from the field (1-for-3 from three), but showcased his playmaking abilities by dishing out six assists.
In 2024-25, Mayo was Kansas' second-leading scorer, averaging 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. He finished the year with the second-best 3-point percentage in the conference (42.2%), trailing only Houston's LJ Cryer. At 6-foot-4, his defensive ability is limited due to his size, but it would not be surprising to see a team take a late flier on him in the second round.
According to the invitational's website, "Every year since 1953, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament has invited 64 senior college basketball players from across the nation to compete before professional scouts. Eight teams of eight players play a 12 game tournament over 4 days, with each player hoping to reach their dreams of becoming a professional basketball player."
Mayo will play his next game in the tournament on Friday, April 18, when Portsmouth Partnerships takes on K&D Rounds Landscaping.
