Kansas basketball has to still be reeling from finally landing the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2026, Tyran Stokes. It was the biggest off-season win for head coach Bill Self and the Jayhawks, and it even came at the expense of the Kentucky Wildcats.

After dangling the carrot for quite some time for both Kansas and Kentucky, Stokes finally picked the Jayhawks, and he even dissed the Wildcats in the process. Stokes had made a visit to Kentucky nearly a month before his commitment, giving Big Blue Nation some hope, but he had already signed his paperwork to join the Jayhawks, according to sources.

It was a big loss for Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, and yet another reason fans aren't too happy with him. Clearly, he must be hearing the noise because Pope is now taking the time to answer questions sent in by fans on social media in a move that seems like it could very easily backfire.

Mark Pope admits Kentucky fell short in the recruitment of Tyran Stokes

Pope's video answering questions from fans seems like something that could go wrong at any moment. It is clear fans want answers when it comes to recruiting, as most of the questions asked of him have to do with missing out on players, including Stokes.

Pope admitted that Kentucky fell short of recruiting a 'generational talent,' meaning Stokes, and it has to make Kansas fans celebrate the recruiting win even more. Early on in his recruiting process, it felt like Kentucky was going to be the clear winner, but Self did what he does best and made the five-star recruit feel welcome.

After Kansas made some big moves for Stokes, it was clear the Jayhawks were the frontrunners, and only a Nike NIL deal was keeping the Wildcats in the running. Stokes ultimately ended up with Kansas and will be playing in the blue and red next season, making fans very excited for what is to come.
