Kansas basketball had a very successful early signing period for recruits this fall. According to Rivals/On3, head coach Bill Self has secured four commitments and the fifth-best recruiting class so far.
KU has three 4-star prospects and one 3-star for the class of 2026. This well-rounded class includes point guard Taylen Kinney (ranked 15th nationally by On3), power forward Davion Adkins (31st), small forward Trent Perry (102nd), and shooting guard Luke Barnett (119th).

Kansas and Houston (4th) are the only Big 12 teams in the top 10, and it is shocking to see Missouri (3rd) anywhere on a list like this. Still, it is nice to see such a strong showing from KU in regards to prep recruits.
Kansas basketball ranks fifth nationally with the 2026 recruiting class
Of course, there will be more additions during the spring signing period. Kansas will have at least five open scholarships to fill by season's end, and most likely two or three more will become available after the season.
KU has four seniors who won’t have any eligibility remaining, and Darryn Peterson will head to the NBA. Flory Bidunga and Bryson Tiller might decide to test the waters at the next level as well. Both could probably use another year at Kansas to fully develop, but the high-dollar contracts of the NBA may entice them.
Kansas will likely lose at least a player or two to the transfer portal, as this happens every season. The NIL aspect of today’s college basketball will keep roster fluid from year to year.
Still, it is nice to see Self recruit such a solid class thus far. He’s still looking to add a rim-protecting big man, in case he loses both Bidunga and Tiller. Otherwise, this is a pretty good start for Self.
It has to be difficult for the staff to know which positions will be needed, aside from the players they know will be gone, but Self hasn’t doubled up on any positions yet, unless small forward Javon Bardwell reclassifies into the 2026 class.
This is the best recruiting class Self has put together in quite some time, and it’s very encouraging.
